Today I want to share 10 Tips & Tricks for a healthy family! And who doesn’t want to be a little healthier? I’m not saying we are the healthiest family out there, but we try. I’m on a personal journey myself to get more fit and well, healthy! Incorporating some of the tips & tricks below have been helping me along!
1. Eat Breakfast
This one should seem like a no brainer, but I know so many people who DON’T east breakfast! I’ll admit it, for a while I was a part of the “No Breakfast” club. But honestly it make’s such a difference eating breakfast! Nothing like starting your day with some nutritious fuel for your body! I love eating greek yogurt with some granola and fruit in the morning! Yummy!
2. Ride Your Scooter Or Bike To School! (Or work)
My daughter Gabby loves her scooter! She sometimes likes to ride her scooter to school. I also have some friends who LOVE riding their bikes to work. Not only does it save them money, it gives them a great work out!
3. Wear Sunscreen
Did you know you’re supposed to wear sunscreen year long?! That’s right! Not just during the summer! I know it may seem pointless, especially if you live in areas with seasons, like NYC. But yes! Sunscreen is absolutely important to wear year long!
4. Drink Water
It’s so important to keep our bodies hydrated! I know so many people who don’t enjoy water…here are some tricks…
For the kiddos:
Get them in the habit of drinking water as early as possible! Pack a bottle in their lunch bags. If that’s their only option and they are thirsty, guess what? They will drink it! Water isn’t so bad. Just have to show them! Also, let them pick out their very own water bottle. That’ll motivate them to drink up!
For the big kids aka adults:(This might work for the kiddos too.)
Drink infused water! I for one, LOVE water! But I sometimes do get sick of it…hello infused water! You basically add fresh fruit, fragrant herbs, raw veggies, and can even add spices to infuse your water! One of my favorites is a cucumber, mint and lemon mix! So delicious and hydrating!
5. Take A Stroll
Home, bored with nothing to do? Take a stroll around your neighborhood! Nothing like taking a nice walk. You don’t have to do a strenuous workout to get the body moving! I love taking walks, especially here in NYC!
6. Buy Workout Clothes!
Ok, this one is definitely a “trick”. I don’t go crazy buying expensive workout clothes, but I do like to buy some nice, affordable clothes. That way, when I see them hanging in my closet it motivates me to work out. I don’t want my money and clothes going to waste after all!
7. Do Yoga!
I love doing Yoga! And my daughter Gabby likes it every now and then! Not only is it a great work out, but it relaxes and calms me as well! We love scoping out YouTube for some great Yoga workouts!
8. Drink Smoothies
This one is a tip & trick! Smoothies are so delicious and healthy! I love drinking them for breakfast as well! I basically blend fruits and veggies with a liquid base of water, almond milk or coconut water. Depending on what I use of course! So yummy and healthy! Here is the trick part….don’t tell your kids (or spouse) about the insane amount of veggies you put in the smoothie! haha They will never know and will be getting great nutrients in their bodies! Score 1 for mom!
9. Listen To Music & Dance
I love music! I find it to be very therapeutic! Throw on some tunes and jam out! And while you’re at it- get up and dance! Dancing itself is such a fun workout! #Just10 minutes will help to get your body moving and grooving! Gabby and I love to have dance battles! I always win of course…just kidding!
10. Hang Out With Friends
Don’t worry- no hair bows required! Hang out with friends! Nothing like a good ol’ play date for the kids! And for the adults, make time to hang out with friends as well! Trust me, it’s good for you! Social interaction is great for people of all ages! My friends make me happy!

So there you go, those were my 10 Tips & Tricks for a healthy family. Speaking of the number 10, I want to let you all know about #Just10. It is basically the concept that just 10 minutes can make your life healthier. No need to go crazy trying to tackle health goals that require a lot of time & effort. A lot of us are very busy! But focus on what you can do in just 10 minutes to get you started. I’m sure we all have 10 minutes we can spare. Especially for the sake of being healthier!
