I’ll be honest, I had no idea who Michael “Eddie” Edwards was before watching the trailer to Eddie the Eagle. I was excited to watch the movie after viewing the trailer! I really love movies inspired by a true story, and hey- Hugh Jackman is in it, so I knew it had to be good!
Inspired by true events, Eddie the Eagle is a feel-good story about Michael “Eddie” Edwards (Taron Egerton), an unlikely but courageous British ski-jumper who never stopped believing in himself – even as an entire nation was counting him out. With the help of a rebellious and charismatic coach (played by Hugh Jackman), Eddie takes on the establishment and wins the hearts of sports fans around the world by making an improbable and historic showing at the 1988 Calgary Winter Olympics. From producers of Kingsman: The Secret Service, Eddie the Eagle stars Taron Egerton as Eddie, the loveable underdog with a never say die attitude. Source: Fox Movies
I recently went to a screening of Eddie the Eagle with my friend, and we both really enjoyed the movie. I actually want to go back with my daughter, Gabby, to watch it again! For starters I love how passionate about his dreams Eddie was from a young age. Even after doctors told him he should give up sports, Eddie was determined. He would some day become an Olympian! I love how his mother supported his dreams as well! As a mother, I would definitely do the same. She never gave up on him. We need to encourage our kids! Dreams can come true!
Even when his dreams turned into a nightmare, Eddie kept going. He was determined to make it to the 1988 Winter Olympics in Calgary as the only British ski jumper! My friend and I couldn’t believe the determination Eddie had! We should all be as determined as him! He gave his best even when failure was the only possibility.
I really loved Hugh Jackman’s character, Bronson Peary. Bronson is Eddie’s rebellious coach. I think Bronson needed Eddie’s help, just as much as Eddie needed his help. Sometimes people come into your life unexpectedly, but for a reason. I think Hugh Jackman and Taron Egerton, who plays Eddie, made a great team together.
One huge lesson that stood out to me from watching Eddie the Eagle was that you don’t have to win to be a winner. I think this is such an important lesson to be learned! Winning isn’t everything, just give it your all and try your hardest.
Eddie’s perseverance makes this film endearing. It’s definitely a feel-good movie about an underdog and his determination. Eddie the Eagle is perfect for the entire family to watch!
